The Ministries of "Tryon Pres"
Tryon Presbyterian has a wide variety of ministries to serve the local area and in missions abroad. A few are listed below. Church School Meets Sunday morning at 9:45 for adults and children. For adults there is a Bible Class and an Adult Forum Class. Also there is a Choir Class that meets at 9:15. Children have age-appropriate study and activities.
Presbyterian Women Tryon Presbyterian Church has three circles that meet on the first Monday of the month. Circles provide for spiritual development and growth, support the mission of the church, and foster an inclusive, caring community of women. In addition to Bible study, support of various missions is a primary focus. All women of the church are truly Presbyterian women, and are welcome and encouraged to be part of the fellowship that circles provide. Presbyterian Men: The men of the church are invited to participate in activities which provide personal spiritual growth and service and social opportunities. A monthly Bible and Breakfast (B&B) is held at 7:30 a.m. the first Thursday morning of each month with a team of men providing a full breakfast followed by meditation over Scripture or a book. On occasion the men provide special physical services to the church or a community cause. Some of the men also assist in the mission of visitation to shut-ins and others of need. Each year a group of men attend the annual Presbyterian Men’s Conference at Massanetta Springs, Virginia. Membership is open to men of the church and their guests. Stephen Ministry: We participate in this nation-wide ministry that equips lay persons to provide distinctively Christian, one-to-one care to those who are experiencing all kinds of needs. Our Stephen ministers complete an extensive, 50 hours of training and are supervised in their ministry. All caring relationships are confidential. Music Ministry: TPC has a highly regarded music program that includes a full choir at the 11 a.m. service except for June, July and August when the choir is on vacation. During this period various soloists and instrumentalists are featured. The church’s three-manual Moeller pipe organ was recently enhanced with the addition of a Festival trumpet and 32¹ pedal stop. The choir usually offers a full-length sacred work annually, such as the Faure or Rutter Requiem. Youth Program: Sundays, 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the church. Middle and high schoolers with Mike Carruth. Pastoral Care Team: This team consists of the Pastor, the Minister of Christian Education and Pastoral Care, and three church members who visit those in need. Prayer Chain: Our church family sponsors an email prayer chain. If someone has a need and would like to have their name put on the prayer chain, they may email or phone the church office and explain the prayer need. It is immediately emailed to some 50 people who have signed up to be on the prayer chain list. Outreach: In conjunction with Thermal Belt Outreach Ministries, TPC supports the largest Pantry in the area with food and gifts, helping to feed almost 500 people per year. Missions: We partner with our denomination in supporting various foreign missions: Shoebox Ministry of Samaritan's Purse Dr. Barbara Nagy, our medical missionary in Malawi, Africa Rev. Dr. Becca Young, our missionary to Indonesia El Mesias, our partner church in Flores Costa Cuca, Guatemala
